UAS Repair & Test Specialist

Riviera Beach, Florida ·

About The Position

The UAS Repair & Test Specialist is a dual-function role responsible for the entire lifecycle of Percepto’s Drone-in-a-Box (DiB) systems—from deep-level hardware diagnostics and repair to final flight validation and quality assurance. You will act as the technical authority in the workshop, ensuring all systems are maintained to the highest standards, while also leading field testing, ATPs (Acceptance Test Procedures), and system performance analysis. This role requires a unique blend of technical "wrench-turning" skills and analytical flight-testing expertise.

Responsibilities

System Technical System Diagnostics, Repair & Integration:

  • End-to-End Diagnostics: Perform deep-level troubleshooting and root-cause analysis on malfunctioning "Drone-in-a-Box" (DiB) hardware and auxiliary equipment.
  • Precision Repair: Execute complex hardware restorations—including component replacement, soldering, cleaning, and lubrication—to meet factory-grade specifications.
  • System Upgrades: Lead hardware and firmware enhancements across the workshop inventory, specializing in camera payloads and critical internal avionics.
  • Software Proficiency: Utilize a diverse technical stack, including Linux, Flight Controller/Stabilizer GUIs, and task management tools (Jira, Monday.com, Confluence), to facilitate daily workflows.

System Testing & Quality Assurance:

  • Operational Validation: Act as the lead operator for system validations, test flights, and Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs) for Percepto’s autonomous solutions.
  • Log Analysis & Optimization: Analyze system logs and flight data to identify performance anomalies, troubleshoot flight issues, and improve overall system reliability.
  • Quality Control (QC): Verify that all hardware components and finished repairs meet strict reliability standards and safety protocols prior to deployment.
  • Process Improvement: Collaborate with engineering and workshop teams to refine testing protocols and provide feedback based on field performance findings.

Fleet Reliability & Operations:

  • Lifecycle Maintenance: Manage preventative maintenance for the operating fleet and local inventory, ensuring drones and base stations are mission-ready.
  • Deployment Support: Monitor and provide remote technical support for preventative maintenance tasks on systems currently deployed in the field.
  • Data Integrity: Maintain meticulous, real-time records of all maintenance, repairs, and test results to ensure 100% documentation accuracy.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Provide transparent status updates on repair timelines and asset availability to internal stakeholders.

Workshop Stewardship & Safety:

  • Asset & Inventory Control: Oversee workshop tools, consumables, and equipment inspections; initiate purchase orders to ensure zero operational downtime.
  • Safety Leadership: Ensuring strict adherence to FAA, OSHA, and company regulations, including the safe operation of heavy machinery (forklifts).
  • Workspace Optimization: Maintain a lean and orderly workshop environment to maximize productivity and cultivate a safe working climate.

Requirements

  • Certifications: A current FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate is required.
  • 1–2 years of experience operating drones or complex autonomous systems.
  • 1–2 years of hands-on experience in drone assembly, electrical/mechanical repair, and quality testing.
  • Ability to analyze system logs to extract performance insights and identify flight anomalies.
  • Proficiency in task management platforms (e.g., Jira, Monday.com) and a commitment to meticulous documentation.
  • Safety & Compliance: Working knowledge of OSHA material handling and storage standards; prior experience operating a forklift.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues across mechanical, electrical, and integrated software systems.
  • Proficiency in basic to advanced soldering; micro-soldering experience is a significant advantage.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical schematics with high precision.
  • Competency in Linux, Shell, Python, or Bash operations; familiarity with flight controller GUI tools.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain high precision in documentation and repair within ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and status reporting.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 70 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks (kneeling, bending, crawling) in both workshop and field settings.
  • Location & Travel: Primarily based at the Florida office with minimal travel requirements.
